Creating a Culture of Welcome

On Thursday, October 21 at 7 p.m. Membership Coordinator Kelly Greene will lead us in discussing and practicing ways to help everyone who comes to the Unitarian Universalist Community of Charlotte feel seen, heard, affirmed and welcome.

Overview: Unitarian Universalist Principles

On Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m., UUCC minister Eve Stevens will offer an overview of the UU Principles. When we’re asked, “what do Unitarian Universalists believe?” many point to our principles. This session will provide a brief history of how our 7 Principles came to be in their current form and explore how we understand our principles in relationship to how we live our faith.

Credo: A Personal Spiritual Journey

In these thirty-minute sessions, the presenters share their spiritual journey and speak about what they give their hearts to. Come watch David Reynolds share his Credo on Zoom on Sunday morning, October 31 at 8:45 – 9:15 a.m.

Healing Threads: A Prayer Shawl Ministry

Meet to knit or crochet together as a spiritual community and to bless the shawls we complete. Shawls are given to Unitarian Universalist Community of Charlotte members with a significant hardship or loss and to Levine Dickson Hospice House.  Meets 2nd Monday at 7:00pm, offsite. Contact Kathleen Moloney-Tarr at krmt1923@gmail.com.

UUCC Hiking Group: November 6 at RiverBend Park

Join us for our next hike on Saturday, November 6, 2021, when we will meet at 234* at 8:30 a.m. and carpool (masks required) to RiverBend Park in Catawba County and hike a moderate 5-mile loop trail.

Open Mind Book Club Meeting on Zoom

The Open Mind Book Club will be meeting on Monday, November 1 at 7 p.m. when we will discuss I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai. The meeting will take place via Zoom.

Lotus Path is a member-led discussion group that explores Eastern religious beliefs, philosophies, and meditation techniques. You are invited to join via Zoom on Sundays at 7:55 a.m.

In a recent class sponsored by the Adult Religious Education and Spiritual Development (ARESD) team, participants watched the PBS Frontline documentary Plastic Wars. Check out these ideas on how you can get started on using less plastic.

New Sunday Morning Parents Group

Parents and Caregivers, starting Sunday, September 12, drop your child(ren) at their CYRE class on the grounds of 234 then join us for socializing, spiritual reflection, and support.

Connecting UUCC Families of Every Description in our FB Group!

In addition to the many Zoom gatherings we are offering our children and youth, we invite all UUCC families to join our "UUCC Families Group" on Facebook. Our goal is to keep our families connected through photos, resources, and personal sharing.

Spiritual Support for Parenting in the Pandemic

If the experience of parenting during the pandemic has left you feeling a need to connect with others in similar situations-- to share the challenges, fears, and joys that populate your everyday—consider joining a four-session parent peer-support group starting in June.

Black Migrants Matter Teach-In

On October 14 at 6 P.M., learn more about the current migration crisis and the implications for what is happening to Black migrants in N.C. in this Facebook live teach-in.

Emerging Issues in Fair Housing Webinar

On Wednesday, October 13 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, Reentry Housing Alliance will review the latest federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) guidance on fair housing, including renting to applicants with criminal records, sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination, source of income discrimination, and rental concerns as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Charlotte Pride Interfaith Celebration

The annual Charlotte Pride Interfaith Service returns with remarks and special musical offerings, broadcast live from the sanctuary at St. John’s Baptist Church on Sunday, October 24th at 6 P.M.

Saturday, October 22 join other UUCC folks in Belmont, NC for a traveling exhibit entitled, Museum of the Moon by UK artist, Luke Jerram.

Every third Saturday, we will meet at 9-9:30 at 234 N. Sharon Amity to weed, clean up, remove English Ivy and other weeds. Please bring gloves and gardening tools if you have them, and water!

Guidelines for Meeting at 234

We are pleased to now be able to offer meeting space in Freeman Hall for UUCC programming and existing small groups, such as Affinity or Discovery Groups, and to offer restroom access to larger groups meeting outside the building, such as Adult Choir rehearsals and other events on the grounds, with a few rules and restrictions.

Volunteer Spotlight: Bryce Nielsen

Bryce Nielsen says volunteering has strengthened her feeling of being connected to our community and has helped her meet and interact with other members without having to overthink it.

Update on One of our Community Partners: Reentry Housing Alliance

Reentry Housing Alliance (RHA) is one of the co-conspirators identified by the Racial Justice Engagement Group, and Unitarian Universalist Community of Charlotte (UUCC) volunteers have been actively engaged with them since last summer in a variety of ways.
