The power of community and fellowship is at the heart of any thriving congregation. At the Unitarian Universalist Community of Charlotte (UUCC), we believe that every member has a vital role to play in creating a warm and welcoming environment for all who enter our doors. One essential role that contributes to the smooth flow of our worship services is that of an usher. If you have a genuine desire to serve and make a positive impact, we invite you to join our dedicated team of ushers.

What does an usher do?

Ushers serve as the friendly faces that guide and assist individuals during our Sunday services. Their responsibilities encompass various tasks that ensure a seamless experience for all attendees. Here’s a glimpse of what being an usher entails:

  • Distributing Sunday Order of Service:
Ushers play a crucial role in providing members and visitors with the Order of Service allowing people to follow along and actively engage in the worship experience.
  • Assisting with Seating:
Ushers are there to greet and guide people to available seats, ensuring everyone finds a comfortable place in the Sanctuary or Alternative Worship Space. They also help accommodate individuals with special needs or preferences.
  • Collecting Offerings:
Ushers facilitate the act of giving by passing offering baskets during designated moments in the service. Their presence ensures that the process is conducted smoothly and respectfully.
  • Counting Attendance:
As an usher, you will have the responsibility of counting the number of individuals attending each service. This helps us track attendance trends and plan for future growth.
  • Performing Money Count:
After the service, ushers are involved in counting and recording the offerings received. This task ensures transparency and accountability in our financial operations.

Benefits of being an usher:

Becoming an usher at UUCC offers numerous benefits and opportunities for personal and spiritual growth. Here are a few advantages you can expect:

  • Meaningful Service:
By joining our ushering team, you will have the chance to serve the UUCC community and contribute to a positive worship experience.
  • Connection and Fellowship:
Ushers have the opportunity to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds and build lasting relationships. This fosters a sense of belonging and strengthens the bonds of our community.
  • Skill Development:
As an usher, you will enhance valuable skills such as organization, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. These skills can benefit you in various areas of life.
  • Spiritual Growth:
Engaging in service cultivates a deeper understanding of your faith. Ushering offers a unique opportunity to experience worship in a different capacity.

At UUCC, we believe that each member contributes to the tapestry of our vibrant community. By joining our team of ushers, you become an integral part of creating a welcoming atmosphere and ensuring the smooth running of our worship services. If you are passionate about serving, connecting with others, and making a difference, we encourage you to consider becoming an usher.
