Music in Worship
Visitors and members alike comment that our musical offerings deepen their experience of worship and reflection. We select music that complements and builds on the theme of each Sunday service.
On a typical Sunday, you may hear music performed on the piano and organ and by one of our choirs, a handbell ensemble or a guest vocalist or instrumentalist. The selections come from diverse music traditions: folk, gospel, classical, world, country and jazz. Our musical selections and our hymns originate from both sacred and secular traditions.
The UUCC Music Program hosts musical events throughout the year:
- concerts and recitals
- coffeehouses
- outreach concerts to assisted-living facilities during the holidays and around Valentine’s Day
Director of Music John Herrick plays the piano, flute and organ. He directs the Adult Choir, Chamber Choir, Children’s Choir and Handbell Ensemble and coordinates the UUCC House Band, guest musicians and special concerts. Collaborative Pianist Jessica Borgnis accompanies the Adult and Chamber Choirs and is an occasional sub for the director of music.
