It’s the start of a brand-new year, which is a great time for making resolutions and setting goals. With so much to do, it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of the day-to-day and potentially lose sight of the big picture. The UUCC Board of Trustees held that “big picture” in mind during its November retreat to set goals for the next stages of its work.
The first of those goals is to identify a system for monitoring our congregational Ends Statements, which were adopted in 2017. Our Ends Statements describe what we aspire to as a community. The Ends are intentionally ambitious, which makes them difficult to measure . . . so we need your help! Beginning this month, the Board will lead a series of Community Sunday workshops focusing on our congregational Vision, Mission, and Ends:
- January 19 – Governance from the Heart: What guides the work we do as a congregation? How do we measure our progress?
- February 16 – Listening Session on Ends Statement #1: We are a joyful, loving, religious community of people who are deeply connected to each other. Here people are heard, included and respected.
- April 27 – Listening Session on Ends Statements #3 & 5:
- #3: We understand our personal, institutional and community involvement with systemic injustice and inequity and we demonstrate a commitment to dismantling these systems.
- #5: Environmental stewardship is a priority in our personal lives, within our congregation and with the larger community.
- Fall 2025 (Date TBD) – Listening Session on Ends Statements #4 and 6:
- #4: We have deep and meaningful connections with others in our community invested in working to end injustice and inequity.
- #6: We are advocates for environmental justice alongside marginalized communities who are disproportionately impacted by environmental degradation and injustice.
Additional Board goals for the 2024-25 congregational year included:
- Engaging the congregation in a leadership workshop to prepare for our newly Settled Minister (completed July 2024)
- Developing a Board policy for recognition of UUCC staff members, e.g. work anniversaries, holidays, etc.
- Completing the scheduled 5-year review of the UUCC Bylaws
- Preparing for Rev. Amanda’s Installation Celebration
- Developing and organizing training materials for new Board members
