We’ve reached 21% of our goal . . . help us get to 100%
With less than two weeks to go in our donation drive for Erika’s Closet, we’ve reached 21% of our collection goal. You all have really turned out with your donations of backpacks and school supplies – but we still have a way to go!
Through Sunday, August 21, the UUCC’s Intersectional Justice Team (IJT) is collecting donations for back-to-school events that are planned to serve 300 children of justice-involved and/or homeless adults in Charlotte, South Carolina, and West Virginia. Our greatest need is backpacks for all ages, genders, and styles. Other needs are: crayons, colored pencils, markers, and notebooks. (New items only, please.)
Donations can be placed in the box labeled “School Supplies” in Freeman Hall, or shipped to IJT member Shannon Maples at 7517 Tarland Ln, Charlotte, NC 28269.
If you aren’t sure where to start, here are a couple of links that we’ve seen at good prices:
Erika’s Closet (erikas-closet.org), a 501c3 nonprofit, is a grassroots organization that assists justice-involved and homeless individuals with new/gently used clothing, one-on-one job coaching, and other items needed to transition back into the community. The nonprofit has assisted over 150 justice-involved jobseekers with obtaining employment this year. This donation drive is IJT’s first partnership opportunity with Erika’s Closet.
