In November, ARESD will sponsor a two-session series on mapping gender, in which participants will explore gender from both a historical and personal perspective.
Facilitated by Eve Stevens, the sessions will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12, and Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
Each session will include an overview of how, throughout United States history, gender has been intentionally defined and enforced as a strict binary by our legal, medical, and education systems.
Part of each session will also include a time for personal sharing about the ways we have been taught gender based on patriarchal and cisgender norms, as well as the ways each of us has expanded, changed, or rebelled against the gender definitions and gender expectations that were handed down to us.
Participants will be asked to journal outside of class in preparation for personal sharing during our time together.
